This Aristocrat Air-Hardening Oversize Tolerance Ground Flat Stock is made by Precision Marshall Steel Company. The steel type is AISI D-2 tool steel, annealed for easier machining. It is a fine quality, air-hardening, electric furnace melt tool steel. The combination of superior abrasion resistance and toughness of D-2 is a result of its high carbon and high chromium analyses. Aristocrat is an extraordinary tool steel that can be used for the most demanding application. It is in the full spheroidized condition, 100% free of decarb and other surface imperfections.

The standard nominal sizes are ground to a satin finish on four sides, free of decarburization, held to tight tolerances in dimensions and squareness, and ready for layout. Each piece is lightly coated with rust-preventive oil and individually packaged in a vapor-resistant envelope which has the size and steel type clearly marked. All ends are precisely cut and deburred to insure excellent yields and handling safety. Thicknesses 3/16" and up are cold-sawn, while lighter sections are sheared. At least one end is painted white for easier identification of the steel type.

The oversize Thickness |T| tolerance is +.010/+.015". The oversize Width |W| tolerance is +.010/+.015". The 18" Length |L| tolerance is +.125/.250". The 36" Length |L| is tolerance +.250/.500".

The available thicknesses are 1/8 to 1 inches. The available widths are 1/2 to 6 inches. Please contact us if you need a different size, or if you need us to make any alterations.

HEAT TREATMENT: Preheat thoroughly at 1450-1500°F, then raise temperature to 1800-1850°F and hold until uniformly heated through. Soak at temperature 45-60 minutes per inch of thickness. To minimize surface ecarburization use salt bath, controlled atmosphere furnace or pack harden. Use high side of hardness for thicker sections.
