This Super-7 Ground and Polished Drill Rod is made by Precision Marshall Steel Company. The steel type is AISI S-7 shock-resistant tool steel, annealed for easier machining. It has uniform machining properties and consistent response to heat treatment through carefully controlled chemical analysis.

Super -7 drill rod is an excellent shock steel that can be and often is used in hot work applications where the tool temperature does not exceed 1000°F. It combines the qualities of high strength and good ductility for cold and medium hot work applications.

Identification of each production lot is maintained, and a certified chemical analysis can be provided upon your request.

The drill rod ends are saw-cut and chamfered or deburred when the diameter is 3/8" or greater. This processing protects other rods from scratching, helps your set-ups and improves safety in handling. Smaller diameters are accurately cut with automatic die-cutters. At least one end is painted black for easier identification of the steel type.

The Diameter |D| tolerance is ±.0003" for rod diameters less than .124, ±.0005" for diameters .125-.499, and ±.001" for diameters of .500 inches and greater. The Length |L| tolerance is +.125/-.000.

HEAT TREATMENT: Preheat thoroughly at 1200-1300°F, and raise to hardening temperature of 1725°F. Hold for one hour and quench in still air. Upon reaching 150°F, steel should be tempered without delay.
