The steel type is AISI A-2 air-hardening tool steel, annealed for easier machining. It has uniform machining properties and consistent response to heat treatment through carefully controlled chemical analysis.Air-True drill rod is made from fine grain, electric furnace air-hardening 5% chrome tool steel. It is a superior quality steel which has excellent wear and abrasion resistant properties. It has a fully spheroidized structure and is 100% free of decarb and other surface imperfections.Identification of each production lot is maintained, and a certified chemical analysis can be provided upon your request.The drill rod ends are saw-cut and chamfered or deburred when the diameter is 3/8 and greater. This processing protects other rods from scratching, helps your set-ups and improves safety in handling. Smaller diameters are accurately cut with automatic die-cutters. At least one end is painted blue for easier identification of the steel typeThe Diameter |D| tolerance is ±.0003" for rod diameters less than .124, ±.0005" for diameters .125"-.499", and ±.001" for diameters of .500" and greater. The Length |L| tolerance is +.125"/-.000".The available diameters are 1/16 to 3 inches. The available lengths are 36 and 144 inches.
