The steel type is AISI D-2 air-hardening tool steel, annealed for easier machining. It has uniform machining properties and consistent response to heat treatment through carefully controlled chemical analysis.Aristocrat drill rod is fine quality,air-hardening, electric furnace melt tool steel. The combination of superior abrasion resistance and toughness of D-2 is due to its high carbon and high chromium analysis. It is an extraordinary tool steel that can be specified for the most demanding application. It is has the full spheroidized condition, 100% free of decarb and other surface imperfections. Aristocrat’s low sulphur content makes it non-freemachining.Identification of each production lot is maintained, and a certified chemical analysis can be provided upon your request. The drill rod ends are saw-cut and chamfered or deburred when the diameter is 3/8" or greater. This processing protects other rods from scratching, helps your set-ups and improves safety in handling. Smaller diameters are accurately cut with automatic die-cutters. At least one end is painted white for easier identification of the steel type. The Diameter |D| tolerance is ±.0003" for rod diameters less than .124, ±.0005" for diameters .125-.499, and ±.001" for diameters of .500 inches and greater. The Length |L| tolerance is +.125/-.000.The available diameters are 1/8 to 2 inches. The available length is 36 inches.
