The steel type is AISI O-1 oil-hardening tool steel, annealed for easier machining. It is an electric furnace-melted oil-hardening tool steel with a full-spheroidized structure. A non-shrinking general purpose tool steel, it has excellent abrasion resistance, toughness and machinability characteristics. It has uniform machining properties and consistent response to heat treatment through carefully controlled chemical analysis. Identification of each production lot is maintained, and a certified chemical analysis can be provided upon your request. The drill rod ends are saw-cut and chamfered or deburred when the diameter is 3/8" or greater. This processing protects other rods from scratching, helps your set-ups and improves safety in handling. Smaller diameters are accurately cut with automatic die-cutters. At least one end is painted green for easier identification of the steel type. The Diameter |D| tolerance is ±.0003" for rod diameters less than .124, ±.0005" for diameters .125"-.499", and ±.001" for diameters of .500" and greater. The Length |L| tolerance is +.125"/-.000".The available diameters are 1/16 to 3 inches, number sizes #52 to #1, and letter sizes A to Z. The available lengths are 36 and 144 inches.
